Better than Tequila
62Sotol
During the 19th Century, in the Northern Region of Mexico, in the village of Temochi, an Indian tribe acclaimed their religious rituals with a nectar made from a cactus plant named "Sereque". This nectar, which contains alcohol in its purest form, was also used as a medical remedy. The Sereque grows abundantly in the Chihuahua desert and is carefully selected for production of the smooth, natural tasting nectar. This nectar is called "Sotol" and its quality depends on the skill and knowledge of the master.
Everybody knows what tequila is. Most folks have at least heard about mezcal too. But if you really want to head into the wild regions of agave-based spirits, you need to seek out spirits like sotol. Now there's a real "walk on the wild side" for ya!!
Sotol isn't going to appeal to everyone, but for those with adventurous palates, it might be just the brand of weird you crave.
You may find a lot of information on the web about sotol, the story tells that 800 years ago the indian tribes discovered this ¨magical¨drink, but the distillation technique came to the continent with the europeans. The native mexican tribes drank a fermented liquid made of the sereque plant.

My friend Booze Hacienda de Chihuahua is pretty much the best available sotol outside
Chihuahua, but if you like a strongest spirit try Sotol de Coyame (which is only available in Chihuahua, and even there is hard to find).
